Report: Microsoft Testing SmartGlass DVR Controls
The Xbox One's television integration includes a number of features that users have found worthwhile. The OneGuide, voice-controlled channel switching, and the ability to watch TV while matchmaking are all reasons you might connect your set-top box to your Xbox One. Right now, those functions are only available in the United States.
If you’re a DVR user though, you haven’t yet been able to dump your cable box remote. Microsoft is reportedly testing a new SmartGlass app to solve that problem.
The Verge is reporting that Microsoft is currently testing the new app alongside television integration outside the United States. Canada and Europe are currently in a preview phase for the television pass-through features.
The new app, which is available to those preview participants, includes recently watched channels and the ability to control a DVR. That means you won’t need to navigate your recorded programs with a cable remote at all. You’ll be able to put that remote back on the shelf for good when these features roll out widely later this year.

Our Take
I love the television integration with the Xbox One, and the new SmartGlass app would solve my one complaint. I just hope that the new Xbox One remote might be able to accommodate the new features.
