Weekend Warrior 3/21/14

by Shin Hieftje on Mar 21, 2014 at 02:00 PM

The night is dark and full of souls. Wait I mean terrors. Wait wrong franchise. Let’s start over.

Hi, everyone! It’s Friday, which means it’s the weekend, which means it’s time for video games. Infamous: Second Son came out this week, but judging by the blurbs our editors gave, Dark Souls II is still burning an itch for a lot of our staff. Also Hanson continues to use this space as a bully pulpit for Avalon. Weirdo. Just kidding, that game's awesome. It will make you distrust all your friends and yell at them and somehow it’s still a great time. What are you guys getting up to this weekend?

Jeff Machiafava: I am utterly hooked on Dark Souls II, and so far the most difficult aspect of the game has been prying myself away from it to get to bed at a semi-reasonable hour. I look forward to putting some late nights into the game this weekend, and hopefully finishing up my trips to Lost Bastille and No Man’s Wharf, which are both terrible places to visit. Actually, pretty much every location in Dark Souls II is a terrible place to visit…why am I enjoying this game so much?

Andrew Reiner: Most of my weekend is dedicated to family activities and the dreaded job of installing new kitchen appliances. We purchased an electronic trash can. I have no idea what it does exactly, but I have to install it and figure out how to get it power. If I don't die in a horrible electrical accident, my plan is to reach level 50 in Titanfall, and dedicate an hour or two to Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes. The movies and TV shows I hope to watch: Gravity and BBC's Atlantis.

Tim Turi: Dark Souls II owns me right now. The original didn’t grab me when it came out, but I’m sticking with the sequel for now. I took down four bosses in one session last night, skyrocketed several levels, and am feeling on top of things. Looking forward to getting completely demoralized this weekend.

Isaac Federspiel: This weekend I’m planning on playing Infamous: Second Son a lot. I’m usually not big on replaying games, but the Infamous series has always been an exception to that rule. If I can, I’m going to do a good and evil playthrough. If for some reason I feel like taking a break, I might jump back into Hearthstone. It’s been weeks since I’ve played and I’ve been getting the itch to play every so often.

Ben Hanson: This weekend I'm going to dabble in a bit more Dark Souls 2. Other than that, I've been meaning to try out this Luftwausers game and whatever else floats my way. Oh, also more of the board game Avalon. It's still the best. Have a good weekend!

Kyle Hilliard: This weekend will be divided between Infamous: Second Son, Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes, Dark Souls II, Titanfall, and Yoshi’s New Island. Realistically though, I doubt I will be able to get my hands on all of them. Other than that, Ben Hanson has invited himself to my house to play a game called Avalon.

Cameron Koch: Will probably play a little bit of everything: Titanfall, Hearthstone, League of Legends. I also recently bought Final Fantasy VIII on Steam and will be playing the game for the first time. Might not get too far into it this weekend, but I’m excited to play an older Final Fantasy game after XIII left a bad taste in my mouth.

Daniel Tack: I’ll probably be snagging some paragon levels in Diablo III with the 100% experience boost to get ready for Reaper of Souls next week. Smite officially launches next week as well, so that’s where my MOBA focus will be over the weekend. On top of that, there’s always time for a few games of Hearthstone… Lots of Blizzard type things this weekend, and I don’t mean the weather. There are inevitably a few indie gems on Steam to check out on any given weekend, so that may happen too.
