Guitar Hero DLC Catalog To Be Shut Down Soon

by Matt Helgeson on Mar 18, 2014 at 11:50 AM

The final nail in Guitar Hero's coffins: Activision will be taking down all its downloadable song offerings for the series soon.

According to Activision, after March 31 you will not be able to purchase downloadable tracks for any Guitar Hero titles, or tracks for sister games Band Hero or DJ Hero.

Activision has put the Guitar Hero franchise on hiatus, and stopped releasing new DLC for the games in 2011. However, it has not ruled out a possible return for the franchise.

It's important to note that the Guitar Hero servers will remain online, and you will be able to still play the songs you already purchased after the March 31 deadline. Activision will also be putting its DLC catalog on heavy discount from now until the songs are taken down.

Our Take:
It's a sad story for me; I still remember my colleague Matt Miller showing me a prototype plastic Gibson SG and a preview version of the original game. I have a lot of fond memories, including being able to interview Slash and Lars Ulrich over the phone regarding their Guitar Hero appearances. Still, I can't imagine this DLC was exactly flying off the digital shelves in 2014.
