Report: New Metal Gear Solid V DLC Coming Early 2015
The downloadable prologue to the next chapter in Hideo Kojima’s renowned stealth series, Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes, releases tomorrow. Reports are coming in that users who register the game see a message indicating new downloadable content for MGS will be available in early 2015.
Redditor Hitzkolpf says they’ve received an email message after registering the game which says “Thank you for registering Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes. Come back early 2015 to claim your downloadable content.”
Based on the limited information, we have to assume that this DLC refers to MGS V: Ground Zeroes, and not MGS V: The Phantom Pain. However, Konami hasn't mentioned any future DLC for either game until now. Kojima has previously been tight lipped about specific release windows for The Phantom Pain, citing the game’s ambitious open-world design as requiring a lot of development time. We’ve already knew that rescued POWs would transfer into player’s bases in The Phantom Pain, but the possibility of free DLC that ties into MGS V in some way is an exciting promise.
Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes is coming to Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation 4 tomorrow. However, The Phantom Pain hasn't been confirmed for last-gen platforms. Hopefully we'll soon get clarification on how/whether last-gen Ground Zeroes save data can transfer to new-gen consoles, and whether The Phantom Pain is coming to PS3 and 360 at all. We've reached out to Konami for comment on the reports.
A full year is a long time to wait to release DLC for a prologue title like Ground Zeroes. Could the early 2015 DLC release date suggest a new chapter leading up to The Phantom Pain? Perhaps Kojima Productions is further ahead in development than they've let on and the DLC will tie in with the release of The Phantom Pain? There's too little to go on to know for sure.
