Studio Behind Live Action Call Of Duty Shorts Taking On Titanfall Next

by Mike Futter on Mar 10, 2014 at 03:04 AM

Respawn and Playflight, best known for the Call of Duty: Operation Kingfish live action short film, are teaming up for a different look at Titanfall. The first teaser for Titanfall: Free the Frontier will be live at 12 a.m. Eastern tomorrow, Tuesday, March 11.

Playflight also provided post-production services on Video Game High School. This follows hints on the Major Nelson podcast that the launch event taking place at SXSW this week will include news about the future of the franchise.

And, no, Respawn hasn’t sold the rights to the franchise to Microsoft. Company co-founder Vince Zampella put any discussion of that to bed quickly via Twitter.

Our Take
Gameplay is only one way to engage players in a new IP. A rich universe with interesting characters and places helps draw and hold people (as Bungie proved with the Halo franchise). Don’t be surprised if books and comics come along to help flesh out the war between the IMC and the Militia.
