[Update] New Record Set For Lowest-Scoring Super Mario Bros. Run

by Dan Ryckert on Feb 20, 2014 at 02:10 PM

Update: YouTube user NotEntirelySure has shaved a full 100 points off his previous mark, completing Super Mario Bros. with only 500 points.

As you can see below, it's a pretty impressive performance, even if NotEntirelySure was disappointed that he died once while doing it. He now maintains that this is the lowest possible score that can be achieved while completing the game.

Original Story:

January 10, 2011

We've seen plenty of YouTube videos chronicling speed runs or high score attempts, but what about achieving the lowest possible score? YouTube user NotEntirelySure has set a new record for the lowest-scoring Super Mario Bros. run.

You can see the video below, in which NotEntirelySure avoids hitting blocks, killing enemies, collecting coins, or landing anywhere but the bottom of the flagpole. It's a novel concept, and it's pretty interesting to watch.
