First Tales From The Borderlands Details Coming To SXSW

by Mike Futter on Feb 19, 2014 at 03:30 AM

Telltale and Gearbox will be taking the stage at film, music, and interactive media festival SXSW next month. The Tales from the Borderlands panel will give fans a chance to hear how the partnership came to be and what they can expect from the collaboration.

Tales from the Borderlands was announced at VGX in early December 2013, but this is the first time we’ll hear how the shoot-and-loot gameplay will translate into Telltale’s formula. The panel will include Gearbox president Randy Pitchford, Borderlands 2 writer Anthony Burch, and Borderlands franchise director Matthew Armstrong. Telltale will be represented by president Kevin Bruner and designer Harrison Pink.

The event will be moderated by the Nerdist Network’s Kumali Nanjiani and Emily V. Gordon. If you’re planning to be at the festival, you can sit in on Saturday March 8 at 5:30 pm.

Our Take:
If Telltale manages to successfully transition the action gameplay of Borderlands into a narrative-driven adventure, I will be most impressed. The studio has a lot on its plate right now, with the ongoing The Walking Dead and The Wolf Among Us seasons. It's also got Game of Thrones and Borderlands on the horizons. These are big bites of the licensing fruit and there are devoted fans of both of these properties.

With big risks come big rewards. Telltale has, so far, made good on its bets.
