by Kyle Hilliard on Feb 18, 2014 at 01:29 PM

Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag's Freedom Cry DLC is now available to download on PlayStation 3 and 4 without the need for an Assassin's Creed IV disc.

Titled simply Assassin's Creed: Freedom Cry in its standalone iteration, the DLC follows a new assassin with Adéwalé on his personal journey to free slaves. You can read our critical thoughts on the DLC by heading here. You can also check out a walkthrough of some of the game's missions in the video below.

The DLC is $14.99 regardless of whether you go with the PlayStation 4 or 3 version of the game. The DLC will also be available on PC on February 25.

Our Take
I'm curious to learn if the DLC sells better without the need for an Assassin's Creed IV disc. Ubisoft did very well with its standalone Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon DLC, but that was radically different from the main Far Cry 3 game. Adéwalé's journey offers a new assassin, but otherwise appears similar to the main game. In any case, it's nice to have the option to play the DLC without having to invest in the full game.
