38 Studios Settlement Bill Signed By Rhode Island Governor

by Kyle Hilliard on Feb 15, 2014 at 04:31 AM

Rhode Island governor Lincoln Chafee recently signed a bill into law that will help promote settlements in the litigation surrounding the collapse of the Kingdoms of Amalur developer.

38 Studios accepted and eventually defaulted on a $75 million loan from the state of Rhode Island to create Kingdoms of Amalur and an unreleased MMO, which created a contentious financial situation for he state, the collapsed studio, and its founder, Curt Schilling.

The law protects defendants settling cases from lawsuits from co-defendants regarding damages for which that defendant is liable. A bill proposed earlier this month aims to allow the state to default on the loan in order to alleviate the financial burden currently held by Rhode Island taxpayers.
