Originally Kickstarted under the Project Eternity moniker, Pillars of Eternity is a tribute to classic PC RPGs like Icewind Dale from the 1990s. Developer Obsidian has updated backers of the project letting them know they will have it by the end of the year.

"...we wanted to officially update everyone that we are looking good to release Eternity by Winter 2014," says junior producer Rose Gomez, whose previous works include South Park: The Stick of Truth and Fallout: New Vegas DLC. "So, look forward to getting your hands on Pillars of Eternity later this year."

The Kickstarter blog update also mentioned there will be no further stretch goals and highlights new concept art of characters and locales from the fantasy RPG.

Pillars of Eternity of eternity shattered its initial Kickstarter goal of $1,000,000 in October 2012 by raising nearly $4 million. Today's update on the release date comes after the delay of the original Spring 2014 release date. Obsidian pointed towards the growth of the PC game as reason for the delay.

Our Take
Kickstarter delays are common but still always a bummer. Part of the cost of fans being a part of the development process is experiencing setbacks alongside the developers. Fortunately for Obsidian, the delay is due to the successful crowdfunding and growing scope of the project. This hopefully means fans will receive a better product in the long run.
