Nitrous Engine's 'Star Swarm' Demo Now Available On Steam

by Jeff Cork on Jan 31, 2014 at 04:27 AM

At CES, Oxide Games and Stardock showed off a new game engine called Nitrous. Unlike many other engines, which are tailored for FPS games, Nitrous is designed for games like simulation titles, which require displaying tens of thousands of units onscreen at once. Now, players who are interested in learning more can download the engine's demo, Star Swarm, on Steam.

Download it here to see how it runs on your machine. Keep in mind that Star Swarm isn't a game, but it's a demo designed to showcase what Nitrous can do.

Our Take
It's great that the developers are confident enough in the engine it to let people test it out on their machines this early. There are plenty of game engines out there, but there's always room for more if Nitrous offers other devs the tools they need.
