Lightning Returns Gets Retailer Specific Pre-Order Bonuses

by Mike Futter on Jan 21, 2014 at 02:14 AM

If you’re in the United States and planning to pick up Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII when it arrives next month, you’ll have your pick of pre-order bonuses. Each of the costumes confers different benefits, making dress-up more than an aesthetic choice.

If you pre-order from GameStop (disclosure: GameStop is Game Informer’s parent company), you’ll get two samurai costumes (Dark Samurai and Flower of Battle). If you pre-order from Amazon, you’ll get the Spira’s Summoner garb, modeled after Final Fantasy X’s Yuna.

Most retailers are also offering Cloud Strife’s costume and Buster sword for pre-ordering. If you spring for the $89.99 collector’s edition (only available from Square Enix directly), you’ll get the Midgar’s Flower Girl outfit modeled after Final Fantasy VII’s Aerith Gainsborough. You can see an unboxing of that edition here.

Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII will be out on February 11, 2014, on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Pre-order bonuses will be available for purchase some time following the launch of the game.

Our Take
Different retailer and collector’s edition digital pre-order bonuses push gamers into making hard decisions. Thankfully, Square Enix is alleviating some of that pressure by making them timed exclusives. If you really want to collect all the different costumes for Lightning, you should be able to do that regardless of where you order from.
