While Nintendo clings to its proprietary hardware, ignoring the massive potential a Mario, Zelda, or Pokémon game would have on mobile/tablet platforms, one of its chief rivals is making bold forays into the space. Today Sony released Bentley's Hackpack on the iOS App store.

This collection of mini-games from Sly Cooper: Thieves In Time originally released on PS3 and Vita. The game showcases Bentley, the gadget obsessed turtle sidekick to Sly. Here are the description of the three minigames provided by Sony:

• Spark Runner: navigate an electric spark through each course, collecting pickups as you go.
• Alter Ego: fly through maze-like stages and let rip in this classic side-scrolling shooter.
• System Cracker: collect items and destroy enemies as you steer your tank to each docking gate.

Following the launch of the PlayStation app and a Knack spin-off game, this release clearly points to a change in Sony's thinking regarding migrating its games to new platforms that aren't under its direct control.

Our Take:
Staying a relevant player in the video game industry takes foresight and courage, both of which Sony is demonstrating by bringing one of its exclusive games over to the iOS. If these games find success, perhaps it will motivate Sony to release more titles starring Nathan Drake, Kratos, and its other popular characters, further strengthening these brands so that fans in turn pay more attention when a new triple-A title releases on the PlayStation 4 or Vita.
