Ghost Recon Online Jumps On Steam Early Access

by Ben Reeves on Jan 14, 2014 at 05:58 AM

Ubisoft's free-to-play, squad-based shooter already has four million registered users, and Ubisoft Singapore is continuing to polish the game. Starting today, Canadian players will be able to jump into the game via Valve's Steam Early Access service.

“Bringing Ghost Recon Online to Steam has been our goal since the game’s inception,” says producer Corey Facteau. “We took the time necessary to reach a quality level that can go head to head with the best online games available today before releasing on Steam. As the top shooter for gamers who enjoy team gameplay, we have also seen our audience expand to include MOBA fans, who comprise fifty percent of our user base. To ensure a seamless transition to the new platform, we will use Early Access to fine tune the Ghost Recon Online experience before releasing it to the rest of the world.”

Ubisoft plans to release Ghost Recon Online worldwide this spring. Read our hands on with the game here.

Our Take
I never got into the Ghost Recon series, but by all accounts it sounds like this entry is staying true to the franchise's roots. If you can access the game, this is a cool opportunity to play a title at see how it evolves before it releases to the wider population.
