Gran Turismo 6 Red Bull Challenge Date An Error

by Mike Futter on Jan 13, 2014 at 12:45 PM

We’ve received a number of questions from readers regarding a Gran Turismo 6 event sponsored by Red Bull that was slated to start on January 1, 2014. Unfortunately, the in-game message proclaiming that start date is inaccurate.

We reached out to Sony to find out about the scheduled start for the event. “The announced date was an internal error on our end,” a Sony representative told Game Informer via email. “We haven't announced a date yet for the Red Bull Challenge but we'll keep you in the loop when the time comes.”

The X2014 Challenge is the second part of a partnership between Polyphony Games and Red Bull Racing. The first two of four cars (the Red Bull Racing Kart and Red Bull X2014 Junior) are available now. The Standard and Fan cars in the set are coming at a later time (presumably when the challenge launches).

All four of the vehicles have been designed in conjunction with Red Bull Racing chief technical officer Adrian Newey. We’ll update once we know when the 2014 challenge will be going live. For more on Gran Turismo 6, check out our review.

Our Take
It’s unfortunate that Sony allowed an erroneous in-game announcement to persist for this long, especially without comment. For those waiting for the final two vehicles and the second part of the challenge, we’ll let you know as soon as we hear about a release date.
