Agent 47 Recast For Upcoming Hitman Reboot Film Following Paul Walker's Death

by Kyle Hilliard on Jan 10, 2014 at 03:51 AM

Back in February of last year, it was announced that Paul Walker would be taking on the role of Agent 47 in a Hitman reboot film. After his untimely death in November, the role had to be recast and a new Hitman has been announced.

Rupert Friend, best known for playing Peter Quinn on the Showtime show Homeland will be taking on the role. The movie is meant to be a reboot of the Hitman film franchise titled Agent 47, so it will likely have no narrative connections to the 2007 film starring Timothy Olyphant. Walker was set to begin shooting Agent 47 after wrapping on Fast & Furious 7. Unfortunately, Walker died in a car accident in the middle of shooting, so no work was done with him as Agent 47.

The film will be directed by Aleksander Bach, who has directed commercials and music videos, but no notable films, and written by Kyle Ward, Skip Woods, and Michael Finch. Ward, Woods, and Finch's writing credits include X-Men Origins: Wolverine, The A-Team, 2010's Predators, and the previous Hitman film, among others.

Our Take
Paul Walker's death was shocking, and reminders of his future projects shows just how unexpected his death really was. I don't know much about Friend, but his filmography is filled mostly with period-piece films like Pride & Prejudice. I'm curious to see how roles like that will translate into an action film about a bald assassin.
