New Dungeons & Dragons Ruleset Coming Summer 2014

by Mike Futter on Dec 20, 2013 at 09:03 AM

Wizards of the Coast has announced that its new ruleset for Dungeons & Dragons is complete. The news comes after two years of open playtesting that included more than 175,000 participants.

Wizards of the Coast will be rolling out the new edition during the summer of 2014. D&D has had a long intertwined history with the video game world, and a new set of pen-and-paper rules could very well mean updated experiences in that world.

Our Take
My first Dungeons & Dragons game was Pool of Radiance, an old SSI tactical RPG. The one I spent the most time with in my youth though, was Eye of the Beholder. The first-person RPG (also by SSI) is worth playing if you can find a copy and get it to work on your contemporary PC. Now, with Baldur’s Gate and Baldur’s Gate II having returned, the time is ripe for a new D&D game with a brand new ruleset.
