Jay Leno is best known as a comedian and late night talk show host, but he's actually one of the world's preeminent car collectors. Recently, he got together with Polyphony Digital to drive a virtual version of his 1966 Oldsmobile Toronado in Gran Turismo 6.
Leno starts off by driving his Toronado in the real world. The car is heavily modified and outputs over 1,000 horsepower, so it's not something you can really hammer down in the wild. He then transitions to playing a virtual version of his car in GT 6 with a full force feedback racing wheel set-up.
It's interesting. He's obviously not a gamer, but is clearly impressed by the accuracy with which his car has been reproduced. Later, he checks out a Mercedes Benz concept car that was made specifically for the game.
Our Take
Leno definitely knows his cars. His real-world skills definitely seem to come into play. The game is accurate enough that, within apparent minutes, this non-gamer is already doing much better in GT than I ever do. Fun fact: This isn't the first time that Leno's car habit has intersected with games. During the production of Rockstar's L.A. Noire, he actually let members of developer Team Bondi into his huge garage facility to take reference photos later used to model vintage cars for the game.
