News is coming in that Rock Band and Dance Central studio Harmonix has suffered a round of layoffs. The studio is currently working on Fantasia: Music Evolved for Xbox One and Xbox 360.

Joystiq is reporting confirmation that a “small number” of employees have been let go because of “shifting staffing priorities.” Our thoughts are with those affected by these layoffs.

Our Take
Harmonix’s Rock Band DLC, which ran for an impressive 275 consecutive weeks, wound down this year. The studio’s most recent game (Dance Central 3) was released last year. The downsizing isn’t entirely surprising, but the timing is painful. Having been on the receiving end of a layoff during the holidays, I know how terrible it can feel. My heart goes out to those currently in that situation.
