EA Stock Down On DICE Project Stall Due To Battlefield 4

by Mike Futter on Dec 05, 2013 at 05:19 AM

Yesterday, EA announced that all of DICE's future projects are on hold. The move comes after significant problems with Battlefield 4 that continue to plague a number of platforms.

Wall Street isn't taking the news well, and EA's stock is down nearly 7.5 percent on the news. The decision puts a temporary freeze on further DLC development and other projects, like Star Wars Battlefront 3.

This morning, EA put a band-aid on some of the PlayStation 4 issues, fixing a one-hit kill math errors, missing sound while streaming, and crashes due to having too many friends. PC and Xbox 360 users are reporting errors related to the new China Rising DLC, also.

Our Take
Bad press is one problem, but EA is now feeling the effect of a poor launch on the stock market. EA's 2013 has been bookended by bad launches, and I retain a glimmer of hope that financial repercussions cause a change in how the publisher manages its internal studios.
