Reader Discussion: Which Genres Have Run Their Course, And Which Have Room To Grow?
The last seven or eight years saw the emergence and dominance of a number of genres. Open world games have become commonplace, MOBAs are flooding the digital space, and everyone is playing in digital sandboxes.
Some genres are coming out of hibernation (like point and click adventures), and others remain dormant, like music/rhythm games. Which do you think have run their course? Which do you think have life left in them with some clever innovation?
