News

Microsoft announced new details about how Twitch will work on the Xbox One at launch. The good news is that you’ll be able to watch videos and earn achievements. The bad news is that you won’t be able to stream directly from your console for another couple of months at least.

“We know the ability to instantly broadcast gameplay is something the gaming community is excited about, and we are too,” Microsoft writes on the Xbox Wire site. “We are working to ensure the initial Twitch on Xbox One broadcasting experience meets the expectations of the Twitch community, so while this feature won’t be available right away, we’ll let you know as soon as it is ready. Our goal is to deliver it during the first part of 2014.”

The Twitch app will give Xbox Live Gold members access to everything on the service. The app can be snapped (placed on the right of the screen) and cycled via fast switching.

Our Take
Ouch. Twitch streaming on the PlayStation 4 has been a huge hit. Microsoft must prioritize this or anyone going to Twitch is going to be inundated with PlayStation content. We talked about how important it is to support external capture devices (something the Xbox One will offer at launch), but streaming directly from console is just as important.
