A forthcoming update for the 3DS handheld brings the Miiverse to the system as well as greater convenience at the eShop.

The update – expected in December – lets you purchase software on either your Wii U and 3DS with a combined balance (as long as both are registered with the same Nintendo Network ID).

Miiverse is also coming to the handheld via the update. You can then share game tips, doodles, etc. with a Nintendo Network ID.

Finally, later this month (separate from the Dec. update), 3DS users can use YouTube – including the ability to search videos on the bottom screen while watching them on the top.

Our Take:
This is a great convenience, and it would be cool if Nintendo went even further and allowed you to buy Virtual Console games once and transfer and play them on both systems.
