Minecraft Mod Experiments With Quantum Physics

by Isaac Perry on Nov 06, 2013 at 07:37 AM

Minecraft players can add the principles of quantum physics to their worlds with the mod qCraft. The mod, which is free to download at their site, explores the principles of observational dependency, superposition, and entanglement.

I would not have been able to tell you what any of those principles meant before I saw qCraft's demonstration.

The website says this is not a simulation of quantum physics, but instead allows us to see “how quantum behaviors are different from every day experience.” Check out the video above for a demonstration of these principles of quantum physics.

The mod was released in October. Daniel Ratcliffe (notice the “t”) programmed the mod. The mod received support from a variety of organizations, including Google.

Minecraft players have done some cool things with their mods already. I can’t wait to see (or not see?) what people will create with qCraft.
