Reader Discussion: Do You Buy Games At Launch, Or Do You Wait?

by Mike Futter on Nov 01, 2013 at 09:22 AM

It used to be that your choices for playing games were simple. Way back in the 1980s, I remember standing in front of a wall of box art with ticket slips underneath. Most of the time you were taking your chances and hoping your choice was fun.

Later on, movie rental chains started carrying games. Then the retail used market emerged.

Since then, Steam and rapid discounts on new retail copies have further complicated one of the most difficult questions facing gamers: When do I buy a game I want to play?

So, we’re asking you: Do you get most games at launch, or do you wait a little while? Maybe you dabble in both areas. We’d love to know how you approach your game acquisitions. (Please keep it legal, though.)
