South Park: The Stick Of Truth Delayed Into 2014

Ubisoft has just announced a delay of South Park: The Stick of Truth. The reasons behind the bump from its planned December release are about improving the quality of the game.

Ubisoft North America president Laurent Detoc hoped that acquiring the game from THQ meant a quick turn around to release. “Within three weeks after acquiring the game, we sadly realized we had to turn this thing upside down if we hoped to deliver the experience everybody wanted,” he says. “It’s been such a major overhaul to get to the point where we are that we couldn’t let it go, even if that meant missing December.”

We saw a short video for the title at New York Comic Con and expressed some concerns about its status at that point. Press hasn’t had the opportunity to play the game yet, and no hands-on impressions have been published. The new release date is March 4, 2014 on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC. Here's the video that Ubisoft showed at New York Comic Con last month.

Our Take
I am a South Park fan, and anything that leads to a better Stick of Truth is okay with me. However, Ubisoft absolutely must hit the March 4 deadline. The company’s finances have taken a huge tumble on the delays of Watch Dogs and the Crew. Ubisoft needs to recuperate its investment in the title and all of its subsequent expenses. As for Obsidian, the news and tenor of the statement reflect very poorly on the developer.
