EA Sports To End Relationship With Tiger Woods

by Matt Helgeson on Oct 28, 2013 at 11:15 AM

According to a blog post, EA is working on a new next-gen golf game that will not feature Tiger Woods, ending the company's 15 year relationship with the golf legend.

The post is on EA's site, and reads, in part:

"EA SPORTS and Tiger Woods have also made a mutual decision to end our partnership, which includes Tiger's named PGA TOUR golf game. We’ve always been big fans of Tiger and we wish him continued success in all his future endeavors.

Moving forward, we will continue to work with the PGA TOUR exclusively to create groundbreaking golfing titles and our partnership remains strong."

The company also released a screenshot of the new golf game.

Our Take:
This is certainly a huge move for EA. It's also an indication of Tiger's falling stock as in the golf world and as a celebrity. EA stuck with him through his much-publicized off-the-course problems, but the fact is that he's not the dominant force on the tour that he once was – and EA obviously feels that his name doesn't sell like it once did.
