The Long Dark Hits Its Kickstarter Funding Goal

by Kyle Hilliard on Oct 12, 2013 at 11:14 AM

The Long Dark, the survival simulator with an impressive cast of developers, has hit its Kickstarter funding goal. With three days left in the campaign, The Long Dark achieved its $200,000 goal.

The Long Dark is developed by Hinterland, a young studio with developers who have worked on games like Far Cry 3, God of War, League of Legends, The Unfinished Swan, Mass Effect, and more.

Earlier this year, Hinterland applied for and received a recoupable advance from the Canada Media Fund (which promotes innovation in film, television, and games in the Canadian industry) to invest in development. The Kickstarter campaign was launched in the interest of gaining additional funding to help polish the game.

We recently interviewed Hinterland's founder, Raphael van Lierop about the inception of the game and the new studio. You can read all about it here.

Van Lierop offered the following statement in regard to the Kickstarter campaign achieving funding:

The team at Hinterland are overjoyed, and so humbled by the incredible support we've had throughout this campaign. There's an amazing amount of energy, excitement, and love for the game already. And we're just getting started! Thanks to all our backers, and thanks to everyone who has helped spread the word about The Long Dark. Thank you for joining us on our journey.

Our Take
We're happy to see The Long Dark achieve funding. Development would have continued even if the Kickstarter campaign didn't cross the finish line, but this will make the game better in the long run. It sounds like an interesting and innovative experience, and we're interested to see if the game will be able to live up to its promise.
