Fable Anniversary Delayed Until February 2014

by Mike Futter on Sep 13, 2013 at 02:51 AM

Bad news for fans of Lionhead Studios Fable series this morning. The developer has announced a delay of its HD update to the series' original entry, Fable Anniversary.

The news comes by way of a post from lead designer Ted Timmins on the Lionhead blog. "It’s not easy making these decisions and I know that us asking you to wait a little longer whilst we get to play test the game every day is downright unfair, so over the next few weeks we’re going to be sharing with you more screenshots, more game footage and perhaps even some… top secret announcements," Timmins writes.

The title will be available at retail and via the Xbox Games Store in February 2014.

Update: One of the questions that inevitably emerged following the delay announcement was whether an Xbox One release is in the cards. Here's the official response:

Our Take
This isn't great news for Microsoft, which now has no first-party titles coming on the Xbox 360 this year. The company has promised to support the console for the next three years, but offering nothing from its own studios during the first holiday overlapping with the Xbox One doesn't send a great message.

In comparison, Sony has Gran Turismo 6 and Beyond: Two Souls ready for launch this holiday season. The two console manufacturers have very different approaches to supporting legacy hardware, and right now, it looks like history is repeating itself.
