Apple Launching New iPhones 5C And 5S Next Week

by Kyle Hilliard on Sep 10, 2013 at 07:45 AM

During Apple's event, the company announced two new iPhones, the 5C and the 5S.

The 5C (seen above) is changing the body design of the iPhone with a seamless plastic casing and no joints. The 5C will also be available in a number of different colors including green, white, blue, red, and yellow. It will be steel reinforced, have an upgraded antenna, and 8 MB camera with zoom functionality.

The 5C will cost $99 for the 16GB model and $199 for the 32GB models with a two year contract. The 5C is meant to be a replacement of the current model of iPhone, the 5.

The newest upgraded model of the iPhone is the 5S. It will include Apple's A7 chip which offers 64 bit processing, adding significant speed. The device will also have a built in fingerprint scanner as part of its redesigned home button, and an updated camera. The 5S will have 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB models for $199, $299, and $399 respectively with a contract.

The 5C and 5S will be available on September 20. Pre-orders begin September 13.

Our Take
The new processor will have very impressive implications for gaming on the device. Visuals will certainly be comparable to what the Vita can offer as we move forward. By featuring Infinity Blade III on stage during the event, Apple seems to really be recognize that gaming is just as important to iPhone users as all of its other multimedia applications. I'm curious to see if the fingerprint scanner can be incorporated into a video game in any way.
