The PlayStation 4 Will Turn On Remotely When You Make A Smartphone Purchase

by Mike Futter on Aug 28, 2013 at 05:02 AM

Sony's president of worldwide studios Shuhei Yoshida has become known for his interaction with fans on Twitter. He's been responsible for a number of subtle announcements of PlayStation 4 features, and today he's made another one.

You'll be able to make PlayStation 4 content purchases from your computer and smartphone. You can do this now on both PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. However, the PlayStation 4 offers a new feature that will have you up and gaming even faster.

Being able to remotely download and install games while at work or on vacation means never missing out on sales or free PlayStation Plus games. It also means getting home, kicking off the shoes, and playing right away.

We've reached out to Microsoft to see if a similar feature for Xbox One will be available. That console is designed run in a low-power state and could offer the same function.

Our Take
One of the hallmarks of the next generation of hardware is convenience. Want to easily switch between games and apps? Want to watch television while waiting for a multiplayer game? Want to easily stream your content?

It's all about making the things we already do easier to access and move between. This is just one more smart way that at least one of the console manufacturers is helping players get to their content faster.
