Microsoft Confirms Halo 4 Game Of The Year Edition

by Mike Futter on Aug 27, 2013 at 02:53 AM

If you've been holding out on the first chapter of the Halo Reclaimer trilogy, Microsoft wants you to get caught up with Halo 4. The publisher has confirmed that 343's first numbered entry in the series will be getting a game of the year edition this October.

The news was shared by IGN, who received an image of the box art and features. Microsoft then confirmed the news.

The package will include Spartan Ops Season 1, a War Games map pass, the recent Halo 4 Champions bundle, and the digital content previous exclusive to the collector's edition.

More details are coming this Sunday in conjunction with the Halo Global Championship Finals.

Our Take
Game of the year editions provide a shot in the arm for titles. They don't often attract people who already own the original release, instead giving new buyers a reason to give a game another look.

They also aren't terribly expensive to create, since all of the content already exists. A little bit of packaging redesign and some focused communication yields a new wave of sales and, more importantly, a boosted player base to keep existing users engaged.
