SaltyBet Is Pretty Great And Really Weird

by Dan Ryckert on Aug 22, 2013 at 11:10 AM

Via a bunch of Twitter chatter in the last couple of weeks, I checked out SaltyBet.com to see what the hubbub was all about. What I found was really confusing at first, and it's certainly weird as hell, but several of us can't stop watching for some reason.

What is it? Well, it's a MUGEN fighter that randomly selects from a huge pool of user-created characters and actual fighting characters, then has AI control them in a fight. Upon signing up for a free account at the site, you're granted $400 in SaltyBucks to put towards your favorite combatants.

It's an odd community with a vocal (and insane) Twitch chat that always runs alongside it, but it's strangely fascinating. Upon doing a little digging, I found this NeoGAF thread that explains a bunch of its quirks. Join the site if you want to watch Ronald McDonald fight the Flash, Fat Albert take on Sabretooth, or Rayman fight a killer whale. It's great.
