Shiny Legendary Pokémon Distribution Event At GameStop Starts Today
As promised last month, The Pokemon Company and Nintendo are kicking off a Pokémon distribution event today at participating GameStop locations. Players who bring copies of Pokémon Black, White, Black 2, or White 2, along with their Nintendo DS or 3DS systems, will receive a shiny level-100 Dialga, the Pokémon Diamond mascot. The event runs until September 8.
Palkia, the mascot for Pokémon Pearl, will be available in shiny form starting September 9. Giratina, from Pokémon Platinum, will be available starting September 30. To be eligible for distribution, players must have acquired the Pokédex within the game and possess no more than 11 Wonder Cards, in-game items that signify received gifts.
Pokémon X & Y are set to launch on October 12.

With Pokémon X & Y fast approaching, this distribution event marks one final push for excitement around the current Pokémon games. These three shiny specimen would indeed be incredibly rare to encounter in-game using normal methods, but distribution events are always a double-edged sword; they offer a chance to acquire rare Pokémon, but they offer everyone that chance, so the Pokémon become drastically less rare overnight.

BELLEVUE, Wash.— Aug. 19, 2013—With Pokémon fans already counting down the days to the October 12th worldwide launch of Pokémon X and Pokémon Y for the Nintendo 3DS family of systems, an extremely rare and exciting opportunity to receive your own Shiny versions of the Legendary Pokémon Dialga, Palkia, and Giratina begins today in the U.S., only at participating GameStop stores. Head to GameStop and get a Level 100 Dialga until September 8th. Catching a Legendary Pokémon is difficult enough under normal circumstances, but this particular Dialga is Shiny—it has different coloring that almost never appears when players encounter it in Pokémon Diamond, making this limited-time event even more extraordinary. While at GameStop, Pokémon fans can pre-order a copy of Pokémon X or Pokémon Y.
Fans can return to GameStop starting September 9th to get a Level 100 Palkia, a Legendary Pokémon encountered in Pokémon Pearl. This Palkia is also a Shiny Pokémon with unusual coloring. Rounding out this trio of limited-time events will be the distribution of a Level 100 Giratina beginning September 30th at GameStop stores, a Legendary Pokémon that is encountered in both Pokémon Diamond and Pokémon Pearl. Like Dialga and Palkia, this Giratina is also Shiny. Each Shiny Legendary Pokémon is available for only three weeks each, so Trainers will need to plan accordingly to take advantage of this special opportunity.
Starting today, you can get Shiny Dialga only at participating GameStop locations by bringing in your copy of Pokémon Black, Pokémon White, Pokémon Black 2, or Pokémon White 2 and your Nintendo 3DS or Nintendo DS system. Here are the dates for all three distributions:
- Shiny Dialga: Monday, August 19th, 2013–Sunday, September 8th, 2013
- Shiny Palkia: Monday, September 9th, 2013–Sunday, September 29th, 2013
- Shiny Giratina: Monday, September 30th, 2013–Sunday, October 21st, 2013
This Shiny Dialga is a rarely seen and hard-to-get Pokémon that arrives in a deep-green teal color, different from its usual dark blue coloring. It promises to unleash time-shattering Steel- and Dragon-type moves. Following the Shiny Dialga distribution event, the Shiny Palkia fans get knows devastating Water- and Dragon-type moves and is a formidable addition to any team. Finally, the fierce Ghost- and Dragon-type moves of Shiny Giratina are sure to strike fear in any opponent.
Players will need to have the Pokédex within the game and have no more than 11 Wonder Cards in their possession.
