The retro-styled 2D MOBA from Ronimo Games could be getting some new features, but that depends on how supportive the community is feeling. The developer has taken to Kickstarter to fund an expansion called Awesomenauts Starstorm.

Awesomenauts was celebrated by many (including us), and has amassed an impressive following – especially considering the small studio that created it. To expand on its successful title, Ronimo is asking for $125,000 via its Kickstarter campaign in order to fund additions to Awesomenauts. These additions include – but are not limited to – three new characters, global chat, and a spectator mode.

If the goal is met, numerous stretch goals will further entice backers with bonuses like a fourth new character, additional music, and new maps. Unfortunately, due to financial issues and publisher complications, all of these updates are Steam-only; they do not include the console versions (a question addressed in greater detail in the campaign's FAQ section).

So, if you enjoyed (or are still enjoying) Awesomenauts, check the project out.

Our Take

Getting more of a good game is never a bad thing. Even though I never played Awesomenauts myself, I'd like to see this expansion succeed; I like when the developers address the desires of the community so directly, and when community members step to support something they love. The project has raised nearly $25,000 in its first day, but as we know by now, momentum can be difficult to maintain with Kickstarter campaigns.
