New App Brings Live Events To PSN Starting With WWE SummerSlam

by Matt Helgeson on Aug 13, 2013 at 08:24 AM

A new Live Event Viewer app will allow PlayStation 3 owners to access a wide variety of both free and pay-per-view events.

The app, which goes live with the schedule PSN update today, aims to bring all manner of live events, from wrestling to concerts to races, to the PlayStation 3. These include the WWE SummerSlam Championships, which happen this Sunday. The app will offer a variety of events, some free and others for purchase. SummerSlam, in keeping with WWE policies, will be a pay-per-view event, which we confirmed with a Sony representative.

Our Take:
Until we see how many and the quality of the live events that will be offered through this app, it's hard to make a real judgment on its quality. I personally don't watch a lot of live pay-per-view events, but some of the wrestling fans on the GI staff that have also cut the cord with cable television will likely find this useful. As always, in the world of entertainment content, more is more and I count this as another nice addition to PlayStation Network.
