CD Projekt Red Opens New Krakow Studio

by Jeff Cork on Aug 02, 2013 at 04:10 AM

CD Projekt Red, the studio behind the Witcher series and the upcoming Cyberpunk 2077 game, has announced that they're opening a new development branch in Krakow, Poland.

The main base of operations for CD Projekt Red will remain in Warsaw, Poland, with the Krakow office "bolstering" development on the Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077, as the official press release characterizes it.

“A new studio, new people and new energy – we’re growing and we’re extremely excited that we can tap into the potential that Krakow has to offer," says Adam Badowski, head of CD Projekt Red. "We want to continue to make better and better RPGs and the new studio is another big step in that direction. Krakow, one of the cultural and scientific centers of Europe, is a really special place that will leave a significant mark on our games.”

Our Take
The games that CD Projekt Red have been working on are ambitious on their own – tackling both simultaneously seems insane. Instead of contracting local devs or outsourcing additional work, CD Projekt Red decided to open another location. Only time will tell if this was the right plan, but if founding a Krakow branch means better overall products, that's only positive for players.
