Day Z Updated For Arma 3, And It Looks Good

by Mike Futter on Jul 25, 2013 at 12:01 PM

Day Z Standalone is still going to be a while, but a group of modders have found a way to ease the wait. Day Z is still amusingly buggy at times, but now it's playable in the beauty of Arma 3's engine.

Arma 3 is available via Steam's Early Access program, and it's currently in beta. The Zoombies team has taken advantage of that to put a coat of polish on Dean Hall's addictive zombie survival creation.

One of the key improvements seems to be the enhanced inventory system. Watching videos of the Day Z mod on Arma 2 is typically filled with extended inventory management moments. Arma 3's gear management is much more friendly.

You can read more about the mod at PC Gamer, who has hands-on with the Arma 3 version.

Our Take
An update to Day Z is definitely going to take the sting out of the wait for the standalone version. This isn't just a coat of paint, though. With the move to Arma 3 comes improved performance and a better inventory system. The only thing I wonder is if this ends up working really well, what's the standalone version going to do that makes it a good purchase?
