Rise Of The Triad Reboot To Allow Level Creation With 1995 Assets

by Matt Akers on Jul 15, 2013 at 08:43 AM

Apogee and Interceptor Entertainment are releasing Rise of the Triad for PC on July 31, a reboot of the original title from 1995. While the game has been dramatically overhauled visually, fans of the classic should be pleased to find the same fast-paced FPS action from the original ROTT. Today we learn that the reboot will also feature a level-creation mode with assets straight from the 1995 version.

In the video below, Interceptor’s Frederik Schreiber & Leon Zawada walk viewers through classic editor mode, demonstrating how tiles, walls, and objects taken from the 1995 game can be used to create campaign and multiplayer levels. Schreiber says the assets are “completely 1:1 graphics from Rise of the Triad, in Unreal Engine 3.”

Pre-orders for Rise of the Triad are available for $14.99 now, and include Rise of the Triad: Dark War (the original 1995 game), Extreme Rise of the Triad, Blake Stone: Aliens of Gold, and Blake Stone: Planet Strike.

Check out the video below, and determine if your PC will be able to handle the game here.

Our Take
Whether you played the original Rise of the Triads or not, Interceptor is making its reboot incredibly accessible. The reboot, original game, extra content for the original game, and two additional Apogee titles are all packaged together for only $15. Furthermore, Interceptor has said on YouTube that any future DLC will be free. The newly announced classic editor mode is frosting on the cake, as it  forms a bridge between the original ROTT and the reboot - a feature not many studios offer.
