Pong's Creator Goes To Kickstarter To Fund His Smartphone Powered Card Game

by Kyle Hilliard on Jul 14, 2013 at 08:34 AM

The creator of Pong, Allan Alcorn, has an idea for a smartphone enhanced card game, and he has taken to Kickstarter to get the game funded.

Alcorn and his collaborator Roger Hector are seeking $100,000 to fund the project. Seriously?! is a card game that uses a smartphone companion app to scan cards, and uses a Siri-like voice to make jokes and move the game along. Backers have the option to to submit their own trivia card ideas, and if your idea gets accepted, you will receive a game design credit.

You can head here to check out the Kickstarter and see Alcorn and Hector's pitch video.

Our Take
The game seems like a sort of Apples to Apples or Cards Against Humanity-type game, built more to foster conversation and share jokes than actually offer gameplay tactics. If the humor is there, and the app integration works well, it looks like it could be a fun social game. In regard to Alcorn and Hector saying receiving a credit in the game could lead to a job – I think that's a little optimistic, but who knows? Maybe it could.
