Diablo III Will Not Be A Next-Gen Launch Title
Blizzard never said that Diablo III was going to be a PlayStation 4 launch title, but it also never said it wouldn't be – until now.
In an interview with Diablo III's developers on on DiabloFans.com, Blizzard confirmed that the game would not be available on the PlayStation 4's launch. The developer only recently received the necessary hardware to develop on next-generation consoles. Blizzard estimates that the next-generation version of Diablo III won't be available until 2014.
As part of the interview, Blizzard also confirmed that there are no current plans for Diablo III coming to handheld devices.
Update: I erroneously made reference to an Xbox One version of Diablo III. This has not been announced or confirmed by Blizzard. The posted interview used the terms, "new console generation development kits," and says, "Diablo 3 will not be a launch date title for the next generation consoles," which can certainly lead to speculation, but nothing is concrete.

Our Take
Diablo III is coming to PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on September 3. The PlayStation 4 is coming this year, and though we don't know exactly when, it's not unreasonable to think it will probably release in November. This is why it was not crazy for us to assume (maybe 'hope' is a more appropriate word) that the game would make it by the PlayStation 4's launch. This is Blizzard we're talking about though, and "timely" isn't really a word that exists in the company's jargon. It's also why we're only slightly disappointed to learn the game won't be available on PlayStation 4 right away.
