Marco Di Vaio's 73,838 Goals In FIFA 13
For the first time in a pro sports league, a video game has been used to determine who would go to an all-star game. Using FIFA 13, gamers are sending Montreal Impact forward Marco Di Vaio to the MLS All-Star game on July 31 in Kansas City.
Gamers racked up 73,838 goals with Di Vaio to make him worthy of the trip to the all-star game. The Italian striker currently shares the label of being the top scorer in the MLS with 11 goals through 17 games.
LA Galaxy captain, Irish international, and English Premier League vet Robbie Keane came in second place with 69,797 goals. EA says that during the week-long competition 488,611 total goals were scored among the 26 eligible players.
Here's the MLS All-Star Lineup:
Goalkeeper: Raul Fernández (FC Dallas)
Defenders: Matt Besler (Sporting Kansas City), Aurélien Collin (Sporting Kansas City), Omar Gonzalez (LA Galaxy)
Midfielders: Brad Davis (Houston Dynamo), Will Johnson (Portland Timbers), Mike Magee (Chicago Fire), Graham Zusi (Sporting Kansas City)
Forwards: Thierry Henry (New York Red Bulls), Chris Wondolowski (San Jose Earthquakes), Marco Di Vaio (Montreal Impact)
I admit that I'm not familiar with Di Vaio's work, but it's good to see that he has the stats so far this season to back up his nomination. In the past few years EA has used the voting mechanic to determine its cover stars, and it's cool that EA and the MLS have taken it a step further.
