Giant Bomb's Ryan Davis Has Passed Away

by Jeff Marchiafava on Jul 08, 2013 at 09:00 AM

The video game industry is reeling from the news that Giant Bomb co-founder Ryan Davis has died.

Giant Bomb announced today that Davis passed away on July 3rd at the age of 34. A former editor at GameSpot, Davis quit the company in 2007 shortly after the controversial firing of Jeff Gerstmann. Gerstmann and Davis formed Giant Bomb in 2008, with fellow ex-GameSpot editors Brad Shoemaker and Vinny Caravella joining them a few months later. Alex Navarro, who also left GameSpot in the wake of Gerstmann's firing, rejoined his former coworkers at Giant Bomb in 2010, completing the core editorial team.

Giant Bomb is revered for its small and close-knit staff, and fans have flocked to Twitter to express their shock and condolences. Our deepest sympathies and love go out to Davis' family and friends, and the entire Giant Bomb team.

Our Take
The Game Informer staff is as shocked and saddened as everyone else by today's news. We're all Giant Bomb fans, and the editors here who knew Davis on a personal level have nothing but fond memories of their time with him. The outpouring of love and support from fans on social media sites is a testament to Davis' character; we hope the Giant Bomb team can find some solace in its community in the coming days.
