A few days ago, we reported that the latest PlayStation 3 system update (version 4.45) had the unfortunate side effect of rendering some units unusable (colloquially known as "bricking"). Sony pulled the update to investigate the problem and has now issued an update.

The patch will be re-released on June 27. Morgan Haro, Community Manager for the PlayStation Network published this comment:

We have identified the issue related to the PlayStation 3 software update (version 4.45) that impacted a small number of PS3 systems earlier this week. A new PS3 system software update is planned to be released on June 27 that resolves the issue. Thank you for your patience and understanding and we apologize for the inconvenience.

We have reached out to Sony to find out if systems adversely affected by the first version of the update will be fixed when this becomes available.
