Dragon's Dogma Going Free-To-Play On The PlayStation Vita
Capcom's Dragon's Dogma has garnered critical praise and a loyal fan following, enough so that it seems to have found its footing as a franchise. Not only is there another title coming, but Capcom is pioneering something exciting.
According to an interview in Famitsu (and interpreted by Siliconera), Dragon's Dogma will be coming to the PlayStation Vita as a free-to-play title. This is the first time that this model has been applied to Sony's newest handheld, and it could be a huge motivator in Japan.
Because of the model, Dragon's Dogma Quest is online-only, but designed as a quick-playing portable experience. It's a 2D RPG in which the player supervises the battle rather than fighting it directly. Pawns return, and players can explore with four of their own and team up with up to four other players.
We're hopeful that Dragon's Dogma Quest might be coming to the West. Given Sony's new focus on free-to-play console titles, branching the model onto handhelds could be an opportunity to grow the library.
