Ni No Kuni Developer Announces Three Smartphone Titles

by Brian Albert on May 30, 2013 at 12:50 PM

Level-5, developer of Professor Layton, Dark Cloud, and Ni No Kuni, is creating three new games for iOS and Android devices. The bad news? As of now, they’re releasing in Japan only.

One game, Chikyu Kaimetsu teki B-kyo Kanojo, will be available in August. The other two, Wonder Flick and Majin Station, are scheduled to release by the end of 2013. Few details were revealed about the games, but Level-5 head Akihiro Hino did spill some details to Japanese magazine Famitsu.

Wonder Flick, Hino said, is about searching for treasure. After launch, he promises “new lands, monsters, items, and…something that goes beyond the traditional boundaries of apps.” Majin Station is a simulation RPG in which the goal is to gain territory using Japan’s rail systems, and Fire Emblem: Awakening artist Yusuke Kozaki is working on its visuals. Lastly, Chikyu Kaimetsu teki B-kyu Kanojo is a post-apocalyptic RPG where battles are fought with slot machines.

Level-5 is no stranger to phone app development, with games like Layton Brothers: Mystery Room and Liberation Maiden under its belt. The latter is available in North America, so there may be hope that these new titles will make their way overseas as well.
