Rockstar's Manhunt Stalks The PlayStation Store

by Matt Helgeson on May 16, 2013 at 02:39 PM

Rockstar's unappreciated, ultra-violent stealth title is now available on the PS2 Classics storefront on the PlayStation Network.

If you've never played Manhunt, it's one of the company's more overlooked gems. That said, it's a dark and disturbing ride that's not for everyone. This official description from Rockstar should give you a good idea of what's in store:

America is full of run-down, broken rust-belt towns where nobody cares and anything goes. In Carcer City, nothing matters anymore and all that's left are cheap thrills. The ultimate rush is the power to grant life and take it away, for sport. As James Earl Cash, you're a death row inmate who awakens from the lethal injection chamber to discover he's met a fate perhaps worse than death. As the star in a sick kill-or-be-killed reality TV show, your fate is left in the hands of the twisted Director, Lionel Starkweather. They gave you your life back. Now, they are going to hunt you down.

Despite its gore, it's also the rare violent game that at least seems to have something to say about violence, questioning how complicit the audience is in the violence they witness onscreen.

Manhunt is available for sale on the PlayStation Store right now. It sells for $9.99. It's rated M for Mature - and that's a well-earned rating.
