Mark Cerny Touts PS4's "Supercharged PC Architecture"
In a recent interview with Nikkei, Mark Cerny detailed some of the powerful elements of the PS4. First and foremost, the acclaimed developer and lead architect for Sony's next generation home console reinforced that developing for the platform will be extremely easy. While this certainly improves on one of the PS3's shortcomings, improved design isn't all that Sony is counting on.
Cerny mentions the great developer feedback received on the console's "supercharged PC architecture." Some of the features he cites to support the bombastic moniker are high speed data relay between the CPU and GPU, reduced writing to and from cache, and GPU pre-processing handled by the CPU. As we know, the PS4 will also come loaded with 8 GB of GDDR5 RAM, which will offer developers versatility.
On the hardware side of the equation, Sony is touting the console's developer-friendly design and raw power as major selling points up front. We're looking forward to seeing more of the titles shown at the February reveal, along with the slew of unannounced games that we have no doubt are in progress as we speak. Until Microsoft decides to pull the curtain back on its own next generation plans, the stage belongs to Sony. We're eager to put the two consoles side-by-side, and we're pretty sure you are, too.
