Reader Discussion: What Can EA Do To Appease SimCity Fans?

by Jeff Marchiafava on Mar 07, 2013 at 01:15 PM

Unfortunately for EA and Maxis, SimCity's server woes continued to make headlines today. What do you think EA has to do to get fans back on board?

While some players have started demanding refunds and signing petitions that call for EA to abandon always-online DRM, I still think the publisher can win back players if it gets its server problems stabilized by the weekend. There's no denying that SimCity's launch has been rockier than most games, but players tend to forget week-one problems once they've been resolved. I don't mean to downplay the seriousness of these issues – players have every right to be upset over purchasing a game they can't play, especially when these problems wouldn't exist if the game could be played offline – but how long are you really going to hold onto your hatred once you have a fun and stable game to play? Then again, maybe this is the straw that breaks the camel's back; gamers have been growing increasingly displeased with always-online DRM, and it seems like EA is always under fire for something.

Do you think players will forgive and forget once SimCity's network stabilizes? Or will EA need to do something extra to win over its consumers? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
