Former Call Of Duty Creative Strategist Kickstarting Platformer

by Louis Garcia on Mar 04, 2013 at 12:46 PM

Development studio Robotoki is crowdfunding The Adventures of Dash, a platformer about a narcoleptic 9-year-old boy.

When asleep, Dash takes on one of a variety of identities in an environment shaped after the one he fell asleep in. Those environments will look vastly different as a different artist is in charge of creating each one.

"What always frustrated me working on Call of Duty, or even our own Human Element, was that hiring any of these artists I loved meant one thing: forcing them into an art style to fit with the game universe we were working on," Robert Bowling, president of Robotoki and former creative strategist at Infinity Ward, says on the Kickstarter page. "It resulted in stripping away everything I loved about them in the first place. Their personality and personal style was lost in the universe of the game. Why should we adapt an artist to the game when the game can adapt to the artist?"

As of this writing the total for the Kickstarter is up to $2,179, with 29 days left to reach $400,000.

The Adventures of Dash is slated to release on PC, Mac, Linux, Ouya and possibly other consoles. iOS and Android versions will follow.
